Many people I know want to start a blog, but never actually do it. We’ve all been there; we’ve all said we want to do something, but then procrastinate getting around to it or make excuses out of fear or apprehension. It’s unfortunate, for a lot of these people are selling themselves short by never giving their ideas a chance to succeed. They’ll never know if their creativity had potential, or if their solutions to a problem were indeed helpful. This is especially true for blogging. In fact, it may be the biggest obstacle to the start of a successful blog.

Stop Procrastinating and Start a Blog

The number one challenge to anyone looking to start a blog is taking the first step.

Take the plunge. Don’t dance around the subject, just dive in head first and start writing. In today’s world, blogging is as accessible as ever. The timeless excuse of not enough time or money does not apply to the world of blogging, for these tools take most of the footwork out of setting up a slick website. You don’t have to know coding or graphic design, you only need ideas.

The reason I advocate just starting a blog is motivational in nature. Once your ideas manifest themselves in an actual website, you will receive a great sense of satisfaction; you will have made that! This feeling of accomplishment will drive you to further improve your blog, and once you start seeing your first visitors, you will be hooked. Addiction to statistics is common amongst bloggers, and you will be no different. When you post thatkiller article full of helpful and innovative ideas, you will be able to sit back and say, “I just helped a bunch of people.” and watch the numbers roll in. This, along with positive feedback, will sustain your will to write.

You Have Absolutely Nothing to Lose

Now, I know many of you are still anxious about creating your own blog, so I ask you this. What do you have to lose? I suppose there is the feeling of rejection that may come if you are a terribly bad writer or an obnoxious plagiarist. But in actuality, there is nothing to fear. No idea is stupid (heck, have a blog for my Corgi ) If it bombs, you can always take it down and move on. No one is going to remember your name or anything dumb you may have said on your sites, and chances are, the time will not have been wasted, for you will have enjoyed writing your first few posts, and more importantly, you will have grown and learned from your time writing and doing research.

I Speak From Experience

When I started my blog, I sat on the idea for months (wanted to blog about Corgis. I had always wanted to make a website, but I wasn’t sure if I had the skills or money for it. Turns out, I’m not too bad at the internets, but I can’t help but think of what my blog would be today if I would have started way back when. Don’t fall into this trap, the sooner you start, the sooner your blog will take off. And don’t worry about being new to the blogosphere or making mistakes.

You Will Get Better

We were all new at some point- don’t sweat the small stuff. When I decided to start a blog it wasn’t all that great. Now, I am more organized, concise, and knowledgeable about the topics I cover. It just takes time and practice, something you will definitely receive if you post with regularity.

In Conclusion

You are only holding yourself back. Stop procrastinating and inventing reasons to not follow through with your ideas of grandeur. You may not succeed, but you will never know unless you try. And who knows, you may become a hit! Start a blog today and show the world what you have to offer; you might just be pleasantly surprised.
